Castle routs Kahuku in baseball opener

Castle scored 12 runs on nine hits in the first inning en route to a 23-1 victory over Kahuku in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division baseball opener at Kahuku Field yesterday.

The game was called after five innings due to the league's 10-run rule.

The Knights, defending East champions, sent 17 batters to the plate in the first inning.

Jason Taniguchi was 5-for-5, including a double and five RBIs for the Knights.

Kailua 13, Kalani 1: Chris Ching hit a grand slam in the bottom of the first as host Kailua topped the Falcons in an OIA East game at Kailua field.

Kaimuki scored four of its runs in the second inning after two outs.

Kaiser pitcher Jason Peters struck out 10 and walked four in a complete-game performance. He also went 4-for-4 and scored two runs.

Mililani 16, Waialua 2: Mililani pounded 11 hits and sent 15 batters to the plate in an 11-run first inning as the Trojans defeated Waialua in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association Western Division baseball opener at Waialua Recreation Center.

Matt Felix led off the game with a home run. Gainor Nitta and Trey Brown each had three hits for the Trojans, who finished with 19 hits.

The game was called after five innings due to the league's 10-run rule.

Corey Fukuya and Tyler Mata combined on a six-hitter for Mililani.

Campbell 3, Waipahu 2: Chad Bailey drove in the go-ahead run with a double in the top of the third inning to give visiting Campbell an OIA West over Waipahu.

Bailey also had an impressive game on the mound, striking out eight and allowing just two hits the entire game.
