Sand & Sea Festival this weekend

The Eyecatcher Sand & Sea Festival will be tomorrow and Sunday at the Whalers Village in Ka'anapali, Maui.

Three events will be featured: a beach volleyball competition, a one-person canoe race and an outrigger sailing canoe race.

The Maui Invitational volleyball championship will be on the beach tomorrow starting at 8:30 a.m.; an 11-mile, one-person canoe race will begin at 10 a.m. A 75-mile outrigger sailing canoe race will be Sunday, starting at 8 a.m.

Safer bicycling promoted

Teachers, parents, children and public officials will ride and rally to promote safer bicycling throughout Hawai'i, Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon.

A short program of speakers and songs will be followed by a neighborhood ride.

For more information, contact Hawai'i Bicycling League at 735-5756. Permission slips are required for children.


Paradise benefit ride

The fourth annual Paradise Ride, a 400-mile bike ride to benefit Hawai'i's AIDS organizations, is scheduled to take place July 21-28. The ride will take cyclists on a scenic journey across the islands of O'ahu, Kaua'i, Maui and Hawai'i.
