Honolulu Theatre for Youth is inviting elementary-school-age children to travel through time or visit the weird sights under the human skin – all via their imagination, of course.

The classes offered by HTY aim to build creativity and self-confidence. Sessions are on Saturdays, April 7 to May 19, at two sites:

  • "Time Travel to Timbuktu," at Pearl City District Park, take kids on an imaginary time machine and has them act out their dreams. Instructor Amber Jo Manuel, a master's degree candidate in directing at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa, focuses on engaging the body and voice.
  • "Squish, Gushy, Gross and Mushy," at Kailua District Park, encourages children to imagine what goes on inside the body. Instructor Anne Marie has a master's degree in counseling psychology, and extensive training in yoga and dance.

The times for both sites: Grades K to 1 are at 1:25-2:25 p.m.; grades 2-3 are 2:35-3:35 p.m.; and grades 4-6 are at 3:45-4:45 p.m. Cost is $75 for the seven-week session. Register by Friday with HTY at 839-9885.
