Domestic violence awareness fair set for tomorrow

By Zenaida Serrano Espanol

There is absolutely no excuse for domestic violence, and at the "No Excuse for Abuse" Domestic Violence Awareness Day Fair tomorrow, organizers hope to drive home that point.

The informational fair, presented by Rep. David Pendleton, R-50th (Kailua, Kane'ohe), will be from noon to 3 p.m. at Windward Mall.

"Basically the purpose is to try to get people who need help to know where to go," said Amber Porter, legislative aide to Pendleton. "(We want) people to know that they're not alone."

More than a dozen organizations will distribute information, provide counseling and answer questions about domestic violence. They include Students and Advocates for Victims of Domestic Violence, Domestic Violence Clearinghouse and Legal Hotline, Honolulu Police Department, Joint Military Family Abuse Shelter, Sex Abuse Treatment Center and more.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will also feature entertainment by the local band Infusion.
