Atlantis names new executive

The board of Atlantis Adventures has made Ronald Williams, the company's chief operating officer, chief executive of the Hawai'i visitor attraction operator. Williams, who has been with Atlantis six years, assumes all duties of Darrell Metzger, the company's former president and chief executive officer, who earlier this month moved to local retailer Hilo Hattie.

Atlantis owns and operates Atlantis Submarines and Navatek Cruises. It also has management/marketing contracts with Sea Life Park, Waimea Valley Adventure Park and the USS Missouri.

FCC extends Emmis waiver

Emmis Communications Corp., owner of local TV stations KHON and KGMB, said today the Federal Communications Commission extended a temporary regulatory waiver allowing it to own both stations.

The extension is good until Oct. 1. Indianapolis-based Emmis acquired KGMB last October as part of a 15-station purchase from Davenport, Iowa-based Lee Enterprises Inc.

FCC rules bar one company from owning two stations in the same market when both rank among the top four in audience market share. That prevents Emmis, which bought FOX affiliate KHON in 1998, from also owning CBS affiliate KGMB. An initial six-month waiver allowing the dual ownership was to expire April 1.
