Police investigating baby's injury
Police have opened an assault investigation involving a two-month-old boy who was diagnosed with a broken rib after he was taken to the hospital for a cold this week.
Police said the infant was brought into the emergency room at Kapi'olani Medical Center on Monday for a cold. A chest x-ray was taken and it appeared normal. The mother and her child were released from the hospital.
A subsequent follow up by a radiologist revealed the infant had a fractured rib. It's unknown how the child received the injury. Police have initiated an second-degree assault case, but they have no suspect.
Internet identify theft alleged
Federal authorities are holding a 24-year-old man in connection with an identity-theft scheme involving the use of the Internet to purchase merchandise.
Police arrested the man, who has no local address, yesterday on Kalakaua Boulevard at 3:05 p.m. and accused him of purchasing various merchandise on-line by obtaining credit through stolen victims' identities.
The man had the merchandise delivered to a business establishment via the U.S. Postal Service, police said.
