Two injured in Iwilei crash

Two people were hospitalized after a car crash in Iwilei today.

Police said shortly before 2 a.m. an Acura traveling on N. Nimitz Highway crashed into a utility pole near Sumner Street. The crash scene is near K-Mart.

Firefighters extricated the 25-year-old driver from the car and took him and the passenger to Queen's Medical Center. The driver was in critical condition and his passenger, a 24-year-old man, was in fair condition, a hospital spokeswoman said. Following the crash, police rerouted traffic onto nearby Iwilei Road.

Woman suspected in scam on elderly victims

Police have charged a 31-year-old woman in connection with a theft, forgery and credit card scheme involving elderly victims.

Police charged Pisa Marvell Tuvale with two counts of second-degree theft, second-degree forgery and fraudulent use of a credit card. Her bail was set at $20,000.

Police accused Tuvale of preying upon the elderly, and stealing a credit card from a 77-year-old woman and purchasing more than $4,000 worth of merchandise at Sears Roebuck and Co. at Ala Moana Center.

Tuvale is also accused of stealing a check from an 84-year-old woman and cashing it for $2,500, police said.

Robbers brandish weapons in Aiea, Waipahu cases

Police are investigating two separate robberies yesterday in Aiea and Waipahu involving assailants brandishing a knife and a pipe.

Police said about 4:25 p.m. two robbers stole a small amount of money from a 16-year-old boy on Aiea Heights Road. One of the robbers had a knife. The boy was not injured.

The second robbery happened on Waipahu Street near Leoku Street at about 6:45 p.m. when four robbers stole money from a 28-year-old man. One of the robbers was armed with a pipe and told the victim he be beaten if he didn't hand over his wallet. The victim was not injured and the robbers fled in a white van.

Public help sought in nightclub kidnapping case

Police need the public's help in identifying two assailants in a kidnapping and assault case at an Ala Moana nightclub March 15.

According to police, assailants confronted a 23-year-old valet at the Venus Nite Club, 1349 Kapiolani Blvd. at 4 a.m. after he had counted the night's money and was attempting to enter his car.

The men assaulted the valet and forced him to drive off in his own car. The assailants ripped out the car's stereo, directed the man to drive to Waipahu and then ordered the man to drop them in Wai'anae.

One assailant is known as "Chris" and is believed to live in the Yokohama Bay area. The other assailant is known as "Sage, Warren or Gary" and is believed to live in the Wai'anae area.

Man who attacked elderly man at HCC sought

Police are seeking a husky Polynesian man, who frequents the Honolulu Community College campus and Pua Lane areas, for questioning about a March 18 attack on an elderly man.

The suspect snuck up from behind the victim, 76, who was sitting on a bench in front of the administration building at HCC. The elderly man was punched repeatedly in the head and robbed. The attack was reported at 2:10 p.m.
