WAHIAWA The body of a 46-year-old man was found floating in Wahiawa's Lake Wilson yesterday afternoon.
The name of the victim was not released last night.
Police said they did not suspect foul play and classified the case as an unattended death. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
The man had gone fishing alone on his 10-foot boat, said Detective Alan Matsumura.
At about 3:20 p.m. another boater spotted the victim's overturned boat near the shore at the Lauone Loop end of California Avenue. The witness returned to the boat-launch area and called for help.
A Honolulu Fire Department crew aboard the Air One helicopter spotted the man's body floating about 20 yards from his boat at about 4:20 p.m., said spokesman Capt. Richard Soo.
Rescue divers retrieved the body and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was identified by his son who arrived at the scene, Soo said.
Matsumura said the man was not wearing a flotation device, although one was found floating near the boat.
The lake was calm, weather conditions were good and it was unknown what caused the boat to capsize.
Matsumura said he did not know if the man had any health problems or if he knew how to swim.
Lake Wilson, the site of the Wahiawa Freshwater State Recreation Area, is the state's largest freshwater sports fishery.
