Omori, Witt earn WAC honors

Two University of Hawai'i athletes have earned Western Athletic Conference honors this week.

First baseman Gregg Omori batted 7-for-11 with four RBIs, while Felicity Witt pitched three victories, including two shutouts.

Rainbow outfielder/first baseman Gregg Omori was named Player of the Week in baseball and Wahine Felicity Witt was named Pitcher of the Week in softball.

Omori, a junior from Kane'ohe, batted 7-for-11 (.636) with four runs, four RBIs, a double, a home run and two walks to help the Rainbows take 2-of-3 from Oregon State over the weekend.

San Jose State's Jeremy Rogelstad was named Pitcher of the Week for his five-hit, 5-0 victory over Texas Christian.

Witt, a freshman from New South Wales, Australia, was 3-0 with two shutouts last week. She had 20 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings, allowing no earned runs. She pitched consecutive shutouts against Tulsa after working 1á innings of relief at Oklahoma State.

Witt leads the WAC with 20 wins, ranks second in innings with 186 2/3 and is third in strikeouts with 159.

Loyola Marymount's Christy Cerecedes was named Player of the Week after batting .727 (8-for-11) and driving in five runs in three games.
