ADB meeting to close roads near convention center

ADB protesters get OK to march

Advertiser Staff

The sidewalk and at least one traffic lane outside the main entrance of the Hawai'i Convention Center will be closed to the public during the Asian Development Bank meeting next week, police said.

The public can also expect more road closures during the ADB meeting, Monday to May 11, to be announced later this week.

But commuters already are being advised to use alternative routes in the area and to avoid Kapi'olani Boulevard intersections with Kalakaua Avenue and Atkinson Drive next week.

The city and the American Civil Liberties Union reached an agreement yesterday that cleared the way for anti-ADB protest groups to march next Wednesday from Magic Island to Kapi'olani Park.

The march will include an hour-long demonstration in front of the center.

Portions of the march route along Atkinson Drive, Kapi'olani Boulevard and Kalakaua Avenue will be closed from noon to 2:15 p.m. next Wednesday.
