Choy named top lei-maker

Brian Choy was overall winner of the Honolulu City and County's annual lei-making contest yesterday at Kapi'olani Park.

Choy captured the Mayor's Grand Prize and four other first-place ribbons in the blue/violet, green, white and hat lei categories.

Other first-place winners were: Muriel Kaya, theme lei and pink lei; Happy Tamanaha, red lei; Bill Char, yellow/orange lei; and Charlene Choy, mixed lei.

Nearly 100 leis were entered in this year's contest.
