Navy investigators have opened a murder investigation after a man was found fatally shot outside a Navy apartment complex at Pearl Harbor early today.

The man, who has not been positively identified, was shot at least three times outside of Gabrunas Hall, a mixed-gender apartment for enlisted service members, according to Lt. Cmdr. Jane Campbell, spokeswoman for Navy Region Hawai'i.

Campbell said Department of Defense police responded to 4 a.m. call that reported shots fired in the vicinity of Gabrunas Hall.

Police found the victim outside the apartment and emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

The murder investigation is being conducted by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), Department of Defense police and base security. No suspects were in custody this morning, Campbell said.

Campbell could not confirm whether the dead man was a serviceman.
