Show Biz
Cazimeros schedule Christmas concert

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

SEASON'S GREETINGS: The Brothers Cazimero opted to bypass the Honolulu Symphony's Christmas shows this winter (Na Leo will do the orchestral holiday sing-out instead on Dec. 14 and 15 at Blaisdell Concert Hall). So what will Robert and Roland Cazimero do? Revert to their own celebrations, that's what — at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6, 7 and 8, and 2 p.m. Dec. 9, at the Hawai'i Theatre. On the heels of a stunning Lei Day concert, I say go for it, guys; the independence should restore a cozier and warm-and-fuzzier holiday gift to the community ...

Which means the Hawai'i Theatre will be bustling with yuletide cheer, because Jim Nabors will perform his own festival at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, and 2 p.m. Dec. 2. And here's a scoop: Robert Cazimero will be a guest soloist on "A Merry Christmas With Friends and Nabors" ...

And Ho'okena, who ventured into the Christmas spirit last year, is contemplating doing another one at the Hawai'i Theatre. Stay tuned ...

WHEE, THE PEOPLE: Emme Tomimbang's fashion line, Island Moments by Emme, will present a fashion show at noon tomorrow at the Pearlridge Liberty House (third floor).

It's a pre-Mother's Day special, featuring local notables and their children — so expect kinfolk of Aunty Genoa Keawe, Teresa Bright, Phillipe Padovani (with his mom), Cha Thompson, Emily Fields, Marivic Dar, Edith Kawakami and Rick Rothmeyer. By the way, The Advertiser now has "official" aloha shirts (a nostalgic boat-day print, with the newspaper's logo embroidered at the pocket), manufactured by 'Iolani Sportswear, which is one of Tomimbang's lines ...

Robert Pennybacker, of Pennybacker Creatives, is producer-director of "Emme and Friends," Tomimbang's revived talk show, which premieres at 6:30 p.m. June 23 on KGMB-9. He is KHON-2's former marketing director, now back on the TV front after a bout with cancer ...

That was Al Harrington, playing a Native American, on "Family Law" the other night ...

Raves are coming in from Nation's Restaurant News, MSNBC and more on Thaifoon, the new Randy Schoch restaurant in Scottsdale, Ariz. Among the first from Hawai'i to give it a thumb's up: Andy Friedlander, the Restaurant Row honcho. Since Schoch has Hawai'i ties (Ruth's Chris Steak House) and plans to go national, could a Hawai'i Thaifoon blow into town soon? ...

TRAVEL LOG: Kenny Endo, the taiko master, is off to Hong Kong, where he will be a guest soloist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic today and tomorrow, performing a concerto for taiko and orchestra composed by Takeo Kudo of the University of Hawai'i, who also will be there. Endo has been collaborating with slack-key whiz Keola Beamer on the Mainland, but not yet here, so a concert is inevitable ...

Tom Moffatt is back from Guam, where he presented O-Shen in a sellout (8,000) at the Merizo. The group performs tonight at the Riptide in Palau and tomorrow at the Globe back on Guam. Sam Choy, who was there, was the host of a dinner at his restaurant, which Moffatt said is the chef's most beautiful eatery, with a remarkable panoramic view of the city.
