HAWAI'I MOTOR SPEEDWAY

  • What: Lei Relay Races.
  • Site: Hawai'i Motor Speedway.
  • Schedule: Gates open 5 p.m. on Saturday with racing at 7 p.m.
  • Track: 1/4-mile, ultra-wide (85 feet wide), dirt track oval.
  • Tickets: Adults $7, seniors 55 and older and juniors 11-17 $5, children 6-10 $3 and children 5-younger free.
  • Information: Dirt-track hotline at 682-8226.

Fast facts: Racing will feature winged sprint cars, super streets, midgets, modifieds and cruzer bruzers.

Last week: The winners were Dean Freitas (winged sprint cars), Peter Rivera (modifieds), Jimmy Joseph Jr. (midgets), Shaun Ternora (mini stock) and Brandon Ternora (mini stock).


HAWAI'I RACEWAY PARK

  • What: Street car racing.
  • Site: Hawai'i Raceway Park.
  • Schedule: Friday and Saturday. Gates open 6 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m.
  • Track: 1/4-mile drag strip.
  • Tickets: Cost is $6, with children 7 and under free.
  • Information: Dirt-track hotline at 682-8226.
  • Fast facts: The program features street car racers.

NASCAR

  • What: Pontiac Excitement 400
  • Site: Richmond, Va.
  • Schedule: Saturday (1:30 p.m. FX)
  • Track: Richmond International Speedway (oval shaped, .750 miles, 14 degrees banking in turns).
  • Race distance: 400 miles.

Fast facts: Dale Jarrett finished 24th in the NAPA Auto Parts 500 last week and lost 79 points of his lead ... Jeff Gordon remains second in the point standings for the fifth straight week.

Last race: Rusty Wallace won the NAPA Auto Parts 500 at the California Speedway. He lead 95 laps on his way to his 54th career Winston Cup victory, moving him ahead of Jeff Gordon for the most career victories among active drivers.

  • Track: A-1 Ring (road course, 2.68 miles).

Last race: Michael Schumacher was lucky in winning the Spanish Grand Prix after Mika Hakkinen pulled to the side of the track with car failure on the last lap.

Fast facts: Team Target's rookie drivers, Bruno Junqueira and Nicolas Minassian, replace Juan Montoya, the 1999 CART champion, and Jimmy Vasser, the 1996 CART champion.

Last race: The race at the Texas Motor Speedway was called off before it started. Race officials and drivers cited the strong G forces prevailing upon the drivers entering the 24-degree banked turns.
