Murrell signs with Panthers

The Carolina Panthers signed free-agent running back Adrian Murrell, the team said.

Murrell, a Leilehua High graduate from Hawai'i, was an unrestricted free agent who spent last season with the Washington Redskins.

The 5-foot-11, 210-pounder played his first five seasons with the New York Jets from 1993-97. He played two years with Arizona until joining the Redskins last season.

Murrell, 30, had three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons — rushing for 1,249 yards and 1,086 yards for the Jets in 1996 and 1997 and then 1,042 yards for Arizona in 1998.
