Sailor shot, killed on Pearl Harbor

Advertiser Staff

A sailor assigned to the staff of the Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Command at Camp Smith, was found shot to death early yesterday at Pearl Harbor.

Navy authorities have opened a murder investigation in the case.

The Navy has identified the sailor, but his name was not released pending notification of relatives, according to a Navy spokeswoman.

Lt. Cmdr. Jane Campbell said Department of Defense police at Pearl Harbor were called to Gabrunas Hall about 4 a.m. yesterday when witnesses reported hearing shots fired.

They discovered the sailor outside Gabrunas Hall. He had been shot at least three times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gabrunas Hall is a mixed-gender billeting facility for enlisted service members.

The shooting was being investigated by the Naval Criminal Investigative Services with support from Department of Defense police and base security personnel.
