Among the 832 grants awarded last week by the National Endowment for the Arts were five for Hawai'i nonprofit organizations. The State Foundation on Culture and the Arts was awarded $506,900 in a program designed to strengthen communities through the arts.

The other Hawai'i recipients of NEA grants were the Consortium for Pacific Arts and Cultures, the Kalihi Palama Culture and Arts Society, the Moanalua Gardens Foundation and North Hawai'i Community Hospital.

Nicole Morita, exhibition management assistant at the University of Hawai'i Art Gallery, is the recipient of a six-month internship at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Morita will work in the museum's Antonio Ratti Textile Center.
