Extra! Extra! Kids rule!
You can read all about it Tuesday in the Kids Day 2001 special issue of The Honolulu Advertiser.
Special Kids Day newspapers, priced at $1 each, will include an insert featuring winning stories, poems and artwork from O'ahu students who were asked to tell readers about "The Magic and Memories of My Favorite Food." Proceeds from the annual Kids Day program benefit Parents and Children Together (PACT), a nonprofit family service agency, and its various programs.
The special issues will be available at select locations islandwide. Be on the lookout for volunteers in bright Kids Day aprons selling the special editions, said Jason George of PACT, who is director of Kids Day. Among the volunteers will be media celebrities and community leaders. Thanks to the sponsors, the Kids Day paper also will be available at no charge to students at certain public and private schools.
First lady Vicky Cayetano, schools superintendent Paul LeMahieu and University of Hawai'i football coach June Jones are the honorary co-chairpersons of the event, sponsored by The Honolulu Advertiser, state Department of Education, Hawai'i Association of Independent Schools and PACT.
