Mid-Pacific wins ILH baseball title

Kyle Yanabu scored on a hit by Dane Marcouiller with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning as Mid-Pacific defeated Iolani, 4-3, yesterday to win the Interscholastic League of Honolulu championship at Aloha Stadium.

The Owls (14-3) also claimed the ILH's lone berth in the state tournament, which starts May 18.

The Raiders, 12-6 and ranked No. 2 in the Hawaiisportsnetwork.com coaches poll, ended their season.

"They are so good, it is a shame they cannot play," said Mid-Pacific coach Dunn Muramaru. "That is one quality team, a quality program and a class school."

Iolani certainly did not go down quietly. Down to their final strike with no one on base in the top of the seventh, the Raiders strung together a walk and two singles to tie the score at 3.

Yanabu led off the seventh with a triple down the right-field line. After two intentional walks and a flyout, Marcouiller drove a fly ball to center field over Iolani's drawn-in outfield.
