Campbell tops Mililani in West baseball
Advertiser Staff
Pinch-runner Abraham Lobetos scored on a delayed steal in the top of the fifth inning yesterday to lift Campbell to a 3-2 win over Mililani in a meeting O'ahu Interscholatic Association Western Division baseball leaders.
"We've still got Monday and Tuesday," Campbell coach Lane Watanuki said. "No one game will be easy. Anything can still happen."
After the Trojans took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a hit batter with the bases loaded, Campbell tied the score in the top of the fifth on an RBI single to left by Keahi Kapana.
Then, with runners on first and third with one out, the runner on first broke for second and drew a throw from the Mililani catcher. Lobetos sprinted home with the go-ahead run.
"It wasn't that I saw an opening, I just had a hunch," Watanuki said. "Fortunately, things like that work out. If it works it's a good play, if it doesn't work you're second-guessing yourself."
