Cyanotech losses triple

Cyanotech Corp., a Big Island producer of products from microalgae, said its loss expanded nearly threefold in the three months ended March 31.

Cyanotech reported a net loss of $683,000, or $0.04 per share, for the three months, compared with $161,000, $0.02 per share, a year ago. Cyanotech shares fell $0.17 to $1.00.

Net sales were $1.76 million for the period, compared with $2.27 million in 2000.


Ward theater to open May 25

Consolidated Amusement Co.'s 16-screen theater under construction at Victoria Ward Centers will open May 25, the national premiere date for the movie "Pearl Harbor." All 16 screens will be showing films.

The company said it expects to feature the war epic partly filmed in Hawai'i on three or four screens.
