'Danny' Padayao rites next week

Funeral services will be held next week for Dannygriggs "Danny" Padayao, the Honolulu police officer who died April 30 after being hit by a pickup truck while on duty in Windward O'ahu.

Padayao, 46, was setting out flares for an earlier traffic accident on Kamehameha Highway near Johnson Road when he was struck by the vehicle.

The 18-year HPD veteran died at Castle Medical Center.

Padayao, of Kane'ohe, was born in Laupahoehoe, Hawai'i.

He is survived by his companion, Donna Borengasser; daughters, Claire, Alyson and Nikki; mother, Cecilia Plekavic; stepmother, Conchita Padayao; sisters Gigi Macion, Nani Fernandez, Brenda Krepek, Nettie Palumbo, Leinaala Damon and Debbie Stevenson; brothers, Nino Plekavic and Blake Tokushige; hanai brothers, Louis and Adrian Patayon; hanai sisters, Candy Souza and Susanna Calica; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday at Diamond Head Mortuary from 6 to 9 p.m., with a service at 7 p.m.

Friends may call again at the mortuary next Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m., and attend a second service at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will follow at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery at 1 p.m.
