Honolulu Police Department Officer Danny Padayao, who was killed in the line of duty last month, will be honored in a special tribute as part of Honolulu Police Week, which starts Monday and runs through Sunday.
On Monday, Honolulu Police Chief Lee Donohue and Mayor Jeremy Harris will kick off Police Week at noon at Tamarind Park with the theme "Serving and Protecting with Aloha."
Entertainment will be provided by The Blue Lights, a police musical group.
On Tuesday, a memorial service will be held for Honolulu police officers killed in the line of duty and those who died while still working at HPD. A special tribute will be given to Padayao, 46, who was hit by a car on April 30 while laying flares on Kamehameha Highway in the aftermath of a traffic collision. The service will be at 7 p.m. at St. Andrew's Cathedral.
Next Saturday, the department will hold the HPD Community Fair at Sister Roberta Park at HPD Headquarters. HPD vehicles, including a helicopter, patrol car, motorcycles and bicycles, will be on display. The department's canine unit will demonstrate some of its techniques. Children can sign up for a keiki ID. The HPD museum will be open for tours. Entertainment and refreshments will be provided. The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Honolulu Police Department began celebrating Police Week in May 1968.
