Outages hit Mapunapuna, Hawai'i Kai
About 1,500 customers lost electricity for half an hour today in the Mapunapuna-Ke'ehi area, a spokesman for Hawaiian Electric Co. said.
Trouble calls started coming in at 8:17 a.m., said company spokesman Fred Kobashikawa. Power was restored at 8:49 a.m., he said.
Because a building with multiple tenants counts as one customer, it was not know how many people were affected, Kobashikawa said.
Meanwhile, about 1,000 Hawai'i Kai residents were left in the dark last night after power was knocked out at about 9:30. Kobashikawa said the power was restored at 10:22 p.m. The failure affected customers in the Kuapa Kai area and homes along Kaluanui Road and Hawai'i Kai Drive. Kobashikawa said the problem was caused by an underground cable failure.
