AT&T's 'Wildest Show in Town' adds 'ukulele giveaways to series

AT&T's "Wildest Show in Town," the popular summertime series combining music, fellowship and a brief nocturnal zoo visit, will begin its 14th season June 6 at Honolulu Zoo.

The weekly activity, from 6 p.m. every Wednesday through Aug. 29, enables families to enjoy a picnic supper while listening to an array of music. The program will again be free, although donations to the Honolulu Zoological Society will be accepted.

Gates open at 4:35 p.m.

There are other new items this year:

  • Four 'ukulele will be given away in separate drawings.
  • Up to 30 attendees will be able to participate in a special guided tour of select zoo animals, from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m., with winners selected at 5 p.m. each week.
  • Children can enter a coloring contest of different animals, with the top three submissions (5:45 p.m. deadline) winning prizes.
  • A weekly zoo trivia contest.

The lineup:

  • June 6 — Na Kane Nui, contemporary Hawaiian.
  • June 13 — Coconut Joe's, tropical pop, soft rock and light jazz.
  • June 20 — Col÷n, contemporary. Kamaka 'ukulele drawing between 6 and 8 p.m.
  • June 27 — Rocky Brown, pop, show tunes.
  • July 4 — Bongo Tribe, classic rock.
  • July 11 — Moe Keale, Hawaiian.
  • July 18 — Ka'au Crater Boys (Ernie Cruz Jr., Shawn Ishimoto, Jon Porias). Ko Aloha 'ukulele drawing.
  • July 25 — Keoki Kahumoku and Herb Ohta Jr., Hawaiian. G-string 'ukulele drawing.
  • Aug. 1 — 'Ale'a, Hawaiian.
  • Aug. 8 — Jimmy Borges and His All-Star Band (from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.)
  • Aug. 15 — A Touch of Gold, oldies.
  • Aug. 22 — Audy Kimura, pop.
  • Aug. 29 — Ten Feet, Island rhythms. Sonny D 'ukulele drawing.
