Concert to aid theater group
A benefit concert for the nonprofit 'Ohi'a Productions will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Leeward Community College theater.
'Ohi'a Productions provides creative and educational theatrical experiences for children and their families by visiting elementary schools. The group develops creativity and self-expression while promoting cultural and environmental awareness.
The benefit, called Once Upon A Star, will feature a compilation from the works of playwrights Lisa Matsumoto and Roslyn, including "Once Upon One Time" and "The Princess and the Iso Peanut."
The event will include a silent auction.
Tickets are $25 for children, and $75, $100 and $125 for adults.
For more information, call 955-2728. Tickets can be ordered at the group's Web site.
Cable plan to be presented
Tim Tucker, representative of the fiber-optic cable company 360 Networks, will speak at the Makaha Ahupua'a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Tucker, who spoke to the group last month about the company's plans to install a cable line along the Wai'anae Coast, is bringing maps and handouts to the meeting at the Makaha Neighborhood Park on Manuku Street.
Two other cable companies plan to place fiber-optic cables in trenches along Farrington Highway, but Tucker says this project will follow the same path along the highway.

Students need host families
The Council for Educational Travel USA, a national, nonprofit educational and cultural foundation, seeks volunteer Island host families for foreign high school and college students.
CETUSA wants host families able to provide a loving home, two meals a day and an experience of true American culture.
There is a $50 per month tax deduction for the host family for each student housed. Students are responsible for their own books, transportation allowance and spending money.
CETUSA's community college program includes tuition for two semesters, 12 units per semester, insurance and a local CETUSA representative to help in the transition throughout the year.
