Police yesterday were searching for an assailant who stabbed two men and left one in critical condition Sunday night in Iwilei.

According to police, the stabbing occurred at 9:35 p.m. on the sidewalk fronting 445 N. King St.

A 51-year-old Honolulu man told police he thought the assailant was yelling at him and walked toward him. The assailant then punched the man, who fell to the ground.

A 35-year-old Kapolei man rushed to investigate the assault and was stabbed by the assailant. The assailant then ran toward the older man, cut him and fled.

The older man was taken to the Queen's Medical Center, where he was treated and released. The younger man underwent surgery at Queen's, where he was in critical condition.

Police said the assailant was a Caucasian man, 30 to 40 years old, 6 feet 2 inches tall, 220 to 240 pounds, wearing shorts and a T-shirt.
