The Left Lane
For beauty's sake

Even "natural" beauty isn't free and, in New York, it could cost you more than $11,000 a year.

That's the figure arrived at by Beauty Biz, a new monthly magazine by the publishers of Women's Wear Daily, when they added up costs at trendy Manhattan salons for services used by the "typical" well-groomed New Yorker: weekly manicures, monthly facials and haircuts every six to eight weeks, plus monthly hair color, eyebrow and bikini waxes, pedicures and massages every three weeks.

Winfrey: To announce selection for book club
Oprah's choice

Oprah Winfrey has made a surprising choice for her 41st Book Club selection.

Her latest pick — a gripping memoir — will be announced on her show at 4 p.m. today on KHON.

This marks the second time Oprah has chosen nonfiction, following Maya Angelou's "Heart of a Woman" in 1997. Books chosen by Oprah for her on-air book club tend to zoom right to the top of the best-seller list.
