Isle surfers wipe out at Tahiti meet

All five Hawai'i surfers remaining in the Billabong Pro Teahupoo were eliminated in the fourth round yesterday in 4- to 6-foot waves at Teahupoo, Tahiti.
World champion Sunny Garcia, Shane Dorian, Andy Irons, Bruce Irons and Kalani Robb were all ousted yesterday, and earned $5,000 each.
In an all-Florida final, Cory Lopez defeated C.J. Hobgood to take the $30,000 top prize. Lopez also moved into the No. 1 spot on the World Championship Tour.
Andy Irons, who was eliminated by Hobgood, is Hawai'i's top-ranked surfer at No. 3. Garcia, who lost to 1999 world champion Mark Occhilupo yesterday, is No. 8.
The next contest on the world tour is the Rio Surf International, scheduled for June 27-July 5 at Barra da Tijuca, Brazil.
CORRECTION
It was Savusa: Jade Savusa of Mid-Pacific Institute was the leading scorer during the 2000 Interscholastic League of Honolulu girls basketball season with an average of 16.9 points per game. Another player was credited in an Advertiser story posted yesterday.
