Judge turns down Uyesugi request

Associated Press

Circuit Judge Marie Milks yesterday denied a motion filed on behalf of convicted Xerox killer Byran Uyesugi.

Uyesugi was found guilty last year of killing seven of his co-workers in 1999. He is appealing his conviction to the state Supreme Court while serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Uyesugi wanted to modify the trial record by introducing into evidence videotapes of media coverage of the trial. Prosecutors said the tapes were not a fair reflection of what happened in court.

The defense claims Uyesugi was denied a fair trial because prosecutors used video images during their opening and closing arguments that were "prejudicial and inflammatory."
