Sea Harvest of Knowledge: Waikiki Aquarium offers classes

By Esme Infante Nii
Advertiser Assistant Features Editor

Do fish have eyelids? Do lobsters sleep? No ocean-related question from a child will be too trivial for the experts to answer when the Waikiki Aquarium launches its summer schedule of classes and activities for all ages, including the smallest kids.

On dates scattered throughout June, July and/or August, families can join explore tide pools and reef flats on the Day Reef Walks, sleep with the sharks on the Aquarium Overnights, or spend an educational and fun evening solving a marine mystery.

There is the Seashore Science Class for children ages 8-12, the Sea Urchins class for ages 3-5 (with their parents), and the Small Fry class for ages 1-3 (also with parents). There are classes for adults, and organized family trips to Midway Atoll.

Fees vary, ranging from $7 to $22 per day class for the general public. Trips and evening and overnight events cost more. Advance registration by mail is required. Call 923-9741 for a brochure, or visit www.waquarium.org
