Iolani's Chong, HPA's Pautler to play for girls crown

Punahou School's Ikaika Jobe, who captured the boys singles title two years ago as a sophomore, advanced to the championship match of this year's state tournament yesterday on Kaua'i.

Jobe, the top seed, beat fifth-seeded Robbie Lim of Punahou 8-1 in the semifinals. Jobe will face Tyler Black of Kamehameha tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. at Punahou for the title.

Black, seeded sixth, upset the No. 3 seed, Dru Kanuha of Kealakehe, 9-8.

In the girls singles, top-seeded Tracie Ann Chong of Iolani and No. 3 seed Michelle Pautler of Hawai'i Prep will play for the championship tomorrow. Chong beat No. 4 seed Krystal Hangai of Mililani, 8-3, and Pautler beat No. 2 seed Mariana Lee of Iolani.

In boys doubles, the No. 1 seeded team of Bucky Jencks and Chris Iwamura of Punahou beat unseeded Jeremy Perron and Joel Maeshiro of Mililani, 8-3 and will face the No. 2 team of Nainoa Depontes and Michael Chan of Kealakehe for the title. Depontes and Chan beat Sean Jobe and Ryan Laws of Punahou, 9-7.

In the girls doubles, the top-seeded duo of Janalle Kaloi and Kim Kaloi of Kamehameha beat No. 4 seed Laruen Matsushita and Jenna Umeno of Baldwin, 8-2, and will face Noelle Lee and Miclynn Crail of Iolani. Lee and Crail knocked off the second-seeded team of Tiana Lum-Tucker and Kareen Konishi of Kaua'i, 8-6.

Punahou leads the boys team race with nine points, while Iolani leads the girls race with eight.
