Blaze damages home in Salt Lake

Firefighters extinguished a blaze at a single-family house in Salt Lake yesterday but not before it did considerable damage.

Half the house was in flames when firefighters arrived at 1183 Ala Lilikoi St. shortly after 5 p.m. No one was inside, and no one was injured.
More than 30 firefighters responded to yesterday's house fire in Salt Lake.
A woman in her 60s and her adult son live in the single-story, three-bedroom house, but firefighters could not find them last night. The Red Cross was standing by in case the family needed assistance.
More than 30 firefighters were called in to fight the two-alarm fire. They brought it under control in about 20 minutes but continued to work late into the evening to make sure it was extinguished.
Fire Capt. Richard Soo said extensive heat damage had rendered the house unlivable.
Damage was estimated at $140,000 to the house and $60,000 to the contents.
Fire investigators will continue work this morning to determine the cause of the blaze.
