Tip leads to arrest of robbery suspect

A 22-year-old man suspected of robbing two banks this month was arrested yesterday in Kapolei, police said.

They arrested Keoni Hylton yesterday afternoon wit special agents from the Honolulu FBI office.

A tip led police to Hylton at the Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park. He is a suspect in the May 15 robbery of the Pearl Ridge branch of the Hawaii State Federal Credit Union and the May 21 robbery of theAmerican Savings branch in Waipahu Town Center.

4 arrested in robbery at bar

Police have arrested four men in connection with armed robbery of a Ke'eaumoku Street bar last night.

Police said the robbery at the Golden Dolls Showgirls, 939 Ke'e aumoku St., took place just after 11 p.m. No one was hurt, they said.

The men, ages 21, 22, 24 and 29, were each arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery, and two were arrested on suspicion of a gun offense.

Truck stolen in raid on industrial firm

Police today were searching for two robbers who raided an industrial business, tied up two men and stole a truck in Waialua last night.

Police responded to Pioneer Hi-Bred International, 67-172 Farrington Highway, at about 11:30 p.m. after two men dressed in black ski masks entered an office and brandished a handgun.

The robbers tied two workers' hands behind their backs with plastic handcuffs and stole one of the workers' blue 2000 Chevy Silverado truck. Nothing else was taken.

The workers, ages 19 and 25, managed to free themselves and call police.

Waikiki fight turns into pistol whipping

Police said a dispute over money escalated into a pistol-whipping yesterday afternoon in Waikiiki.

The incident occurred on Ala Wai Boulevard at 1 p.m. A 37-year-old said he was in his car when his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend asked him for money.

He gave the man a few dollars but refused to give more. The assailant, 39, tried to reach in the car and grab the car keys. When the driver fought back, he was struck on the head with a pistol. The assailant fled the scene.

Man surrenders in kickback probe

A 43-year-old auto parts dealer who is under investigation in a kickback probe involving civilian employees of the police department turned himself in yesterday.

He is being investigated for second-degree theft and bribery.

In April two former civilian employees of the Honolulu Police Department pleaded not guilty to charges they ordered overpriced auto repair parts for the department and pocketed kickbacks, including trips to Las Vegas.

Victor Hasebe, an automotive equipment superintendent, and Winston Owan, police department storekeeper, were charged with stealing approximately $35,000 from the city.

The two men also are accused of falsifying invoices on about $10,000 worth of auto parts taken for personal use. Owan was fired March 21, said his attorney, Rich ard Hoke. Hasebe retired last year.

Mo-ped rider in critical condition

A 33-year-old man was in critical condition today after he was struck riding his mo-ped in a hit-and-run in Kalihi last night.

Police said the man was traveling toward Kalihi Valley on Kam IV Road around 10:55 p.m. when he was struck from behind by a dark-colored van or sport utility vehicle near Keha Place.

The van fled the scene and the mo-ped rider was taken to Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. He was not wearing a helmet, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or the Honolulu Police Department's traffic division at 529-3499.

Fire destroys home in Captain Cook

Big Island fire officials said a candle caused a fire that destroyed a Captain Cook home today. Damage was estimated at $280,000.

Firefighters responded to the 2:56 a.m. alarm at 83-5436 Middle Keei Road and found the one-story home engulfed in flames. The fire was under control at 3:28 a.m.

No one was injured, fire officials said.
