Viloria undergoes surgery for broken hand

Brian Viloria underwent surgery in Los Angeles today to repair a broken right hand, forcing a postponement of his next fight for at last two months.

Viloria, who was to have fought June 19th on ESPN2, "is doing fine," said his manager, Gary Gittelsohn.

Viloria, the Waipahu High graduate who appeared in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, made his professional debut with a victory May 15th at the Hawai'i Convention Center.

It was in the third round of that bout, a four-round unanimous decision, that he apparently broke the hand, Gittelsohn said.

Gittelsohn said the doctor told him the surgery went well and Viloria will have his hand in a wrap for three weeks and then have a fiberglass cast for another three weeks.

Gittelsohn said, depending on the rate of Viloria's progress, he could fight again in "two to three months."
