Registration deadlines are approaching for the 2001 Aloha State Games, which offer competition in 48 different sports.

The Games open June 2 with a community fair and opening ceremonies at Kaka'ako Waterfront Park.

The first events of the games —bulls-eye pistol and action pistol —also take place June 2 and 3 at the Koko Head Range. Registration deadlines for both events are seven days prior, or today, according to Mark Zeug, executive director.

Competition in 22 sports begin June 9 and 10, and another 14 sports start on the following weekend.

In all, the 2001 Aloha State Games will award nearly 1,000 medal events.

Details and on-line registration are available at alohastategames.com.

Registration booklets also are available at all Starbucks Coffee and Jamba Juice locations in Hawai'i.

Registration fee for individual sports is $20 for up to six events ($15 for children under 12); for team sports, $30 per team plus $12 per team member. Most sports will accept late entries for $10 extra, but late registrants are not guaranteed a T-shirt, Zeug said.

Registration booklets also can be obtained from event sponsors: Moore's Outlet Store in Wai'anae, Hawaiian Wireless, HMSA, Ozone Sports, Pacific SportsCare/Wahiawa General Hospital and Young Guns.

For information, call the Aloha State Games office at 732-8805.

Notes: All team managers, captains or a representative competing in softball must attend a meeting 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lanakila Park. Teams can submit their roster and registration at the meeting.
