American Savings Bank

• A federal savings bank based in Honolulu, it is Hawai'i's third-largest financial institution. Subsidiary of Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc.

• Employees: About 1,250

• Assets: $6 billion

• Number of Hawai'i branches: 68

• Total domestic deposits: $3.59 billion

• Changes: After nearly 15 years with Hawai'i's third-largest financial institution, chief executive Wayne Minami is stepping down and handing the titles of president and chief executive to Constance Lau.

Bank of Hawaii

• Pacific Century Financial Corp. subsidiaries: Bank of Hawaii, Pacific Century Bank in California, and branches in Asia and the West and South Pacific.

• Employees: 3,785

• Assets:$12.6 billion

• Number of Hawai'i branches: 76

• Total domestic deposits: $5.5 billion

• Changes: Pacific Century Financial Corp.'s sweeping divestment plan announced last month calls for the sale or closure of nearly all of its operations outside the state, shifting focus back to Hawai'i and reversing years of far-flung expansion efforts.

First Hawaiian Bank

• BancWest Corp. major subsidiaries: First Hawaiian Bank, Bank of the West in California, and branches in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada, Guam and Saipan.

• Assets: $7.5 billion

• Total domestic deposits: $5.7 billion

• Changes: BancWest Corp.'s board has voted to accept an offer by France's biggest bank to acquire the Honolulu company for about $2.5 billion. The purchase would take the Hawai'i bank private.
