Advertiser Staff

Season tickets for the University of Hawai'i football season go on sale starting Tuesday by phone and at the Stan Sheriff Center box office.

The season ticket package includes eight home games, but does not include the Warriors' Sept. 8 game against Montana on Maui.

Hawai'i's first O'ahu game is Sept. 29 against Rice.

Other home games are against Texas-El Paso (Oct. 13), Fresno State (Oct. 27), San Jose State (Nov. 3), Boise State (Nov. 10). Miami, Ohio (Nov. 17), Air Force (Nov. 24) and Brigham Young (Dec. 1).

All games are 6:05 p.m. at Aloha Stadium, but subject to change pending possible national television coverage.

Ticket prices are $135 (mauka/ makai sideline, limited), $117 (south endzone, north endzone for adults), $77 (north endzone for senior citizens and youths 4-18). There is also a premium seat donation ($12 or $25) for various sections, and a handling fee ($4 at Stan Sheriff, $6 by phone).

Tickets may be ordered by calling 944-BOWS (2697), noon to 4 p.m. on Tuesday or weekdays thereafter from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Stan Sheriff ticket office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

BASEBALL

• Seniors in Classic: Some of the state's top graduating seniors are expected to play in the third annual Sugar Mill Classic baseball game at noon tomorrow at Hans L'Orange Park in Waipahu.

The game will pit the Aloha Stars — mostly Interscholastic League of Honolulu players — against the Hawaiian Stars — mostly O'ahu Interscholastic Association players. Both teams will be augmented with Neighbor Island players.

Batting practice starts at 9:30 a.m.

Former University of Hawai'i assistant baseball coach Coop DeRenne will coach the Aloha Stars, while former pro catcher Garrett Nago will coach the Hawaiian Stars.

Some of the players expected to play are: Moloka'i shortstop Kelii Alcon, Iolani first baseman Blaine Umeda, St. Joseph pitcher James Onaga, Campbell pitcher Chad Bailey, Kamehameha first baseman Alika Kuraoka and Pearl City catcher Gavin Concepcion.

Draft prospects Brandon League, the hard-throwing right-handed pitcher of St. Louis, and Bronson Sardinha, an infielder for Kamehameha, are not expected to play on advice from their advisers, sources said. Both are signed to play for Pepperdine, but both are expected to be taken in next month's amateur draft.

• Goodwill games: Sixteen boys, ages 9-12, will be representing Hawai'i in a goodwill baseball series to be played in Hiroshima, Japan, in August.

The team, coached by Corey Tanaka, is scheduled to play four games. About 50 friends and relatives will be making the trip with the team. The contingent leaves Hawai'i on July 12 and will return home Aug. 12.

BOXING

• Pro card Tuesday: Mike Balasi of Honolulu meets Roberto Cardona of California in the welterweight main event of a Hawai'i Professional Boxing Inc. card Tuesday night at Aloha Tower, Pier 10.

Balasi is 2-0 and Cardona 1-0. The bout, scheduled for four rounds, tops a six-bout show that begins at 7 p.m.

In four-round women's matches, junior lightweight Vicki Cozy (1-0) meets debuting Jacqueline Nava and debuting Sarina Sojot takes on Nadine Salim (3-2-1) in a junior featherweight match.

Other four rounders match: Heavyweight Sitafine Talosaga (1-0) vs. Matt Taufetee (1-2); welterweight Jerry Saribay (2-1) vs. Quinton Drennon (0-0); and junior middleweight Clay Lewis (1-1) vs. Manuel Mada (0-0).
