MUST-SEE: (network TV) "World Music Awards," 8 p.m., ABC. Taped in Monaco, this annually assembles top performers. Christina Aguilera and Ricky Martin perform a duet; Nelly Furtado and Nelly (the rapper) are there as well. Others include Shaggy, Enya, Aqua, Anastasia, and Rod Stewart who may have felt out of place, because he's older and has two names.
MUST-SEE (cable): "Egypt Beyond the Pyramids," 6 p.m., History Channel. More than 3,000 years ago, Egyptians created things with an awesome size and scope. In the first hour, we visit the Temple of Karnak. It sprawls over 60 acres in Luxor. And in the second, we confront the amazing excesses of Ramses II. He ruled Egypt for 67 years, had at least 100 children and left a mystery. The sons of pharaohs usually had grand burials. Why were there no signs of the sons of Ramses?
In 1987, an American archeologist made a stunning discovery. Kent Weeks found a structure that had been buried by flood debris and by the dirt from nearby excavations. Most Egyptian structures had no more than eight rooms; this one has at least 150 and may hold the remains of the missing princes. This is a two-night British docu-mentary, presented by Peter Woodward. The filmmaking is adequate; the stories are fascinating.
"Boston Public," 7 p.m., Fox. If you missed this above-average show the first time, here's a chance to catch up. The series opener has a tough school principal (Chi McBride), worrying about everything from bullies to a football star who's being flunked. This is a strongly written and acted hour, closing with an effective montage.
"Bee Gees in Concert," 5 p.m., Fox Family Channel. Almost a quarter-century after "Saturday Night Fever," the Brothers Gibb are working on reviving interest.
"The Shining" (1980), 8 p.m., TNT. Stephen King's horror tale was stylishly directed by Stanley Kubrick. Evolving slowly, it offers Jack Nicholson as a writer who doesn't take well to spending a winter in a quiet hotel.
"American Experience: Return With Honor," 9 p.m., PBS. Here's a Memorial Day rerun of a documentary visiting the memories of prisoners of war in Vietnam.
