A water-main break yesterday\hampered traffic and temporarily shut down the new Consolidated Theatres' Ward 16 complex on Auahi Street.

A worker talks on a cell phone as he checks out damage from a ruptured water main near the corner of Kamakee and Auahi streets next to the Ward Entertainment Complex. The break temporarily cut off water to Consolidated Theatres' Ward 16 complex.

The pipe ruptured about noon near Kamakee and Auahi streets next to the Ward Entertainment Complex, cutting off water to surrounding businesses.

A Board of Water Supply spokesman said the rupture should be repaired by early this morning. The cause was unknown.

The theater canceled several shows yesterday afternoon, including showings of "Pearl Harbor."

"We are offering refunds to people," said Rod Tengan, the theater's general manager. He said the theater's bathrooms were without water, and food- service employees could not wash their hands.

A bypass to the water supply from another street was rigged by about 3:30 p.m., and the theater resumed showing movies.
