Lifeguards sweep Waikiki Ocean Mile Swim

Lifeguards one at Fort DeRussy and another from Los Angeles were winners yesterday in the second annual Waikiki Ocean Mile Swim.
John Flanagan, 25, won the men's race in waters fronting Duke's Waikiki. Flanagan, a Ft. DeRussy lifeguard, beat the field of nearly 250 in 13 minutes, 15 seconds. New Zealand's Glenn Anderson (13:34) and Steven Ferguson (13:37) were second and third, respectively.
Heidi Hannenian, a 30-year-old Los Angeles lifeguard, was the first woman finisher in 14:22. She finished two seconds ahead of Ashley Swart, a 16-year-old Kaiser High School student. New Zealand's Andrea Hewitt was third in 14:51.
The swim is part of the 12th Hawaiian Airlines World Ocean Games. The games continue with the Hawaiian International Ocean Challenge, a competition for lifeguards, from 12-4 p.m. Friday at Makapu'u Beach and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Kailua Beach Park.
GOLF Tomori 11th: Christel Tomori of Hilo tied for 11th in the SBC Futures Golf Tour's $50,000 Ann Arbor (Mich.) Classic, which ended at the Lake Forest Golf Club on Saturday.
Tomori shot a 2-over-par 218 (75-69-74) on the 6,135-yard, par-72 course and earned $1,043.
Mayumi Nakajima of Nagano, Japan, won the tournament with a 210 (67-71-72), and earned $7,000.
CAMP UH men's basketball: Entries are still being accepted for the UH Rainbow Men's Basketball Summer Camp.
The first session is scheduled for June 8-10; a second is set for June 11-13. Both sessions will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day at the UH athletic complex.
The camp is open to boys and girls ages 5 through seniors in high school. Entry fee is $150 per child, per session.
UH head coach Riley Wallace and his assistants will provide instruction, along with current and former Rainbows. For information and applications, call 956-6501. Wahine basketball: University of Hawai'i coach Vince Goo, his staff and current and former players will conduct two camps. The first, June 15-17, is for girls and boys, ages 5-13. The second, June 22-24, is for girls ages 14-18.
Both sessions will be at the Stan Sheriff Center and campus gyms. Each camp has a $75 fee, which includes personalized instruction, station work and a 5-on-5 tournament.
