There also are companies where you can mail your albums to have them transferred to CDs. Recording companies urge vinyl lovers to carefully wrap albums to avoid breakage, send them through overnight or certified mail and insure them.

Here are a few companies to try:

Great Recordings: Charges $55 an hour to restore vinyl recordings and burn them on CDs.

Multimedia Duplication Services in Atlanta, Ga.: Prices include a $25 transfer fee and $25 for each hour of music recorded to CD.

Magic Sound Restoration in Windermere, Fla.: Charges $19.95 per album recorded to CD or $29.95 if you want vinyl recording cleaned.

RECtify in Grove City, Pa.: Will clean and restore 26 to 50 albums and transfer them to CD for $10.49 each.
