Tube Notes

MUST-SEE (TV): "AFI Salute to Barbra Streisand," 7 p.m., Fox. Ever notice that things get grander when Streisand is around? Other stars had their American Film Institute tributes scrunched down to an hour on TV. Streisand gets two hours.

That leaves room for lots of tributes — from Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, Elizabeth Taylor, Sidney Poitier and more — plus clips, interspersed with a Streisand interview.

MUST-SEE (cable): "All Access: Cheers and Jeers II," 5 a.m., VH1. If you don't want to rise this early, set the VCR for this special, produced by VH1 and TV Guide, with praise and boos for music trends. Classic rockers? There's praise for the notion that Bob Dylan and Paul Simon are still rocking at 60 — but criticism for Axl Rose touring without his Guns N' Roses colleagues. Public spectacle? There were jeers for Toni Braxton's clothes (or lack thereof) at the Grammys — and for George W. Bush's inauguration bash.

LOCAL INTEREST: "Na Mele: Traditions in Hawaiian Song," 7:30 p.m. PBS. This half-hour special looks at the The Hawai'i Jazz All-Stars: Sam Ahia, Rich Crandall, Sango Muyiwa, Noel Okimoto and Byron Yasui.

"Friends," 7 p.m., NBC. In a funny episode, Rachel has to evaluate her young assistant — who's also her love interest.

"Julia" (1977), 8:30 p.m., AMC. During World War II, author Lillian Hellman had a mission in Europe. That story gets an Oscar-winning script by Alvin Sargent, fine direction by Fred Zinnemann ("High Noon") and a terrific cast. Jane Fonda stars; supporting Oscars went to Vanessa Redgrave and Jason Robards.

"Three Sisters," 7:30 p.m., NBC. The cynical Nora is finally ready to take another chance for romance.

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m.,, CBS. Nick (George Eads) spends the night with a hooker who's later murdered.

"Mystery: The Wyvern Mystery," 8 p.m., PBS. In the first half of this tale, a sweet young woman (Naomi Watts) married into a family that had wealth, secrets and bitterness. Then things turned nasty. Stick around tonight for the terrific conclusion.

"E.R.," 9 p.m., NBC. Jim Belushi is in a strong plot, as a dad who's filled with guilt after a traffic accident.

"AJ After Hours," 7 p.m., E! channel. This is the debut of a talk show hosted by A.J. Benza. Tonight's guest star is Heath Ledger, the young star of "A Knight's Tale."
