Big Island officers investigated in sexual assault case

The Hawai'i County Police Department acknowledged yesterday it is investigating sexual assault allegations made against two police officers.

The investigations were begun after a woman said she was assaulted by each officer in unrelated incidents, the department said. Because of the allegations, the police department has been conducting both criminal and administrative investigations into the matter.

The officers involved were relieved of their duties and remain on leave pending the outcome of the investigations, the department said.

Man arrested in Mo'ili'ili shooting

A 41-year-old Kaimuki man suspected of shooting and injuring another man outside the Mo'ili'ili 7-Eleven on Oct. 29 was arrested on Seaside Avenue in Waikiki at 12:20 p.m., police said. The man, who lives on Center Street, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder.

The shooting sent a 29-year-old Beretania Street man to the Queen's Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his right temple. The bullet grazed the man, police said.

Pearl Kai jewelry robbery arrest made

Police yesterday charged a 37-year-old man in connection with an armed robbery at the JT Jewelry and Watch store in the Pearl Kai Shopping Center on Aug. 12.

Larry Tagata was charged with first-degree robbery and his bail was set at $50,000. Police believe Tagata threatened employees with a gun. Another man, Edward Benson, 33, was charged with one count of first-degree robbery and was being held on $25,000 bail in connection with the robbery.
