Fishing vessel leaking fuel off O'ahu
Advertiser Staff
A fishing vessel with a cracked fuel tank has leaked about 200 gallons of diesel fuel into the ocean eight miles south of Pearl Harbor, the Coast Guard said today. The spill was discovered by the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Jarvis at about 10 a.m.
The Coast Guard hired the Pacific Environmental Co. to plug the leak or unload the 3,000 gallons of fuel still on board the boat. The cleanup is costing $25,000 taken out of the Coast Guard's pollution fund. "The Coast Guard will require reimbursement from the responsible party," the Coast Guard said in a statement.
