• CHARLES O. SWANSON, former commander of the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, who is also former president and chief executive officer of Hawaiian Tug and Barge and Young Brothers Ltd., has been named to the volunteer board of directors overseeing the yet-to-open KAHALA NUI life-care retirement community. The vice chairwoman of the board for the facility's not-for-profit development corporation, Kahala Senior Living Community Inc., is JOYCE TIMPSON, president of Joyce Timpson & Associates. Other directors include CLIFF CISCO, RELDA LOOMIS, JOHN MAGEE, NATHANIEL POTTER, HATSUNE SEKIMURA and LAURA THOMPSON. The facility is offering informational seminars. Reservations: 737-1900.

• Also at Kahala Nui, STELLA LUECKE was appointed marketing assistant.

• SCOTT ASHWORTH, formerly golf pro at the McCormick Woods Golf Course, Washington state, has been named head golf pro for the KO OLINA GOLF CLUB and MARRIOTT GOLF.

• Summit Lending of Hawai'i, the state's only locally owned and operated mortgage bank, has announced promotions in its corporate operations department and retail sales division. DANEIL CHINEN, previously senior underwriting manager, was named quality assurance manager. ANDREW "DREW" ANIYA was promoted from Summit loan processor to loan specialist, with a focus on mortgage loan origination.

• Leanne M. Pletcher has been named executive director of the Kona Association for the Performing Arts on the Big Island. Pletcher is former director of communications for Holy Cross Resources Inc., a national not-for-profit Indiana health-care firm. KAPA is a result of the March 2000 merger of Kona Community Chorus and Orchestra and Aloha Performing Arts Center.

• The HAWAI'I ISLAND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BOARD has announced a shifting of positions on the board of directors: ROBERTA FUJIMOTO CHU, vice president and manager of Bank of Hawaii's Big Island Commercial Banking Center, has assumed the position of HIEDB chairwoman. She replaces BARRY TANIGUCHI, president of KTA Super Stores, who remains on the board and shares vice chairman duties with HERBERT M. "MONTY" RICHARDS of Kahua Ranch. Other directors include: secretary, RICHARD HENDERSON, of RSI Inc.; treasurer, ROBERT SAUNDERS, of W.H. Shipman Ltd.; and member-at-large, BARRY MIZUNO, of Puna Geothermal Venture. Of newfound importance, said Chu, is aggressive marketing of the Big Island as a safe travel destination, along with more economic diversification.

• Longtime wireless retail and management veterans MICHAEL MOON and FERNA YAMAMOTO have been named to a new, indirect sales team for AT&T Wireless in Hawai'i. Moon, as district indirect manager, sales and distribution, will manage specific marketing programs, sales representatives' training and distribution network enhancement. He was most recently retail district sales manager. Yamamoto, retail manager for the firm's downtown-Pacific Guardian store, will become account executive, indirect channel, serving as the primary liaison between the company and authorized state dealers.

• Perry Kaleohano has been named assistant manager for the Verizon Wireless retail store at Davies Pacific Center.
