Dobelle to speak at Kona luncheon

WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i — University of Hawai'i President Evan Dobelle will speak at the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce's Friday Focus luncheon Nov. 30 to address future higher education programs in West Hawai'i.

The talk by Dobelle will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Hilton Waikoloa Village.

The price of the luncheon is $25 for chamber members and $30 for others.

KAUA'I

Kaua'i assault under investigation

Kaua'i police have opened an attempted murder investigation in the case of a Saturday afternoon assault.

Police said a man, whose identity has yet to be confirmed, was assaulted at 5:43 p.m. Saturday on I'o Road.

Responding officers arrested a Kekaha resident and recovered a weapon.

Detectives of the investigative service bureau are continuing to look into the incident.


Free entry offered to bird refuge

KILAUEA, Kaua'i — Entry to the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge will be free Nov. 10-12 as part of the federal government's Veterans Day weekend observance.

The bird refuge, which features clifftop views of great frigatebirds, red-footed boobies and others, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
