Wahine 4th seed in WAC soccer tournament

The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team will be the fourth seed in the Western Athletic Conference tournament that begins today in Dallas.

The Wahine (5-3 in WAC play, 8-9 overall) will face third-seeded Boise State today at 1 p.m., HST.

Hawai'i, which closed the regular season with a 3-1 victory over Fresno State in a WAC match Saturday, finished in a three-way tie with Rice and Tulsa for second place in the WAC.

Rice, playing its first season, was awarded the No. 2 seed based on its 2-0 mark against Boise State and Hawai'i this year.

Boise State was 1-1 against Rice and Hawai'i to earn the third seed, dropping the Wahine to No. 4.

Top-seeded Southern Methodist and Rice received first-round byes.

SMU will face the winner of No. 5 Tulsa and No. 6 Fresno State in one semifinal.

Rice will face the Wahine-Broncos winner in the other semifinal.

Both semifinals are scheduled for tomorrow.

The championship match will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m., HST, with the winner qualifying for the NCAA tournament.
