Isle File
Surfer Moody in contention for world title

Advertiser Staff

Sean Moody is the only surfer from Hawai'i remaining in the Billabong World Junior Championships, which was postponed yesterday due to unfavorable wind conditions at Phillip Island, Australia.

An increased 4-foot swell is expected this morning, but organizers are hoping that winds swing around to the northeast to provide ideal, offshore surfing in the coming days.

Moody is scheduled to meet Australian Mick Fanning in a quarterfinal heat.

Other quarterfinal heats match: Kirk Flintoff (Australia) against Pablo Gutierrez (Spain), Bruno Santos (Brazil) against Joel Parkinson (Australia) and Adrian Buchan (Australia) against Dane Johnson (United States).

HPU falls to 15th: Although it has clinched a berth in the NCAA II Pacific Regionals, Hawai'i Pacific continues to fall in the AVCA Division II Top 25 coaches poll.

Hawai'i Pacific (16-3, 10-3 PacWest) dropped into a 15th-place tie with Augustana College (S.D.) in this week's poll. The Sea Warriors swept Augustana in last year's national championship game.

The six-team, single-elimination Pacific Regional tournament will be held next week at a site that has yet to be determined.
