Musical storm set to blow into Hawai'i

Earth, Wind & Fire, a musical machine with at least 16 singers and dancers on stage, returns to Hawai'i for a performance at 8 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Blaisdell Arena.

The group has amassed a legendary list of hits over the years, including "Reasons," "Serpentine Fire," "Sing a Song," "Let's Groove," "Boogie Wonderland," "After the Love Has Gone, "Saturday Night," "September," "That's the Way of the World," "Shining Star" and "Got To Get You Into My Life."

Earth, Wind & Fire has recorded 22 albums and CDs over the years, accounting for more than $20 million in sales in the U.S. alone.

The group is now led by Philip Bailey, vocals and percussion; Verdine White, bass; and Ralph Johnson, vocals, drums and percussion. Other members are Sheldon Reynolds, vocals and guitar; Robert Brookins, musical director and keyboards; Myron McKinley, keyboards; Bobby Gonzales, guitar; Danny Reyes, percussion; B. David Whitworth, vocals and percussion; John Paris, drums; Ray Brown, trumpet and flugelhorn; Reggie Young, trombone; Gary Bias, saxophone; Toyona Holloway, background vocals; and Elizabeth Ramos and Stacey Harper, dancers.

Earth, Wind & Fire last performed in the Islands in May 1988.

Tickets: $55 and $45, on sale starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Blaisdell box office and all Ticket Plus outlets, including Foodland and Sack 'N' Save stores.
